YAF Leads Against the Left
It's imperative to fight the liberal tide on campus

The state of conservatism on our campus is healthy. George Washington University is a pre-dominantly liberal school but the conservatives at our university are very active, vocal, and visible. The various conservative groups (Young America's Foundation, College Republicans, Students Defending Democracy) all have a niche in the overall movement on campus, and all represent so called "right wingers" in a respectable and favorable manner. Although our organizations have different specialties we all work to promote the conservative movement on campus.
There is an old and stupid saying that says "when you're young, you are a liberal, and when you are older, you become conservative." Conservatives on this campus have foregone the middle process of being liberal and seeking drastic change to our way of life. While conservatives at this campus adhere to the guidelines set forth to govern us in the constitution, liberals look to rewrite our founding fathers intentions. They look to limit freedoms entitled to every individual such as "the right to bear arms." They actively aspire to rewrite history, through a revisionist lens. They seek to allow government intrusion on everyday life. They want us to bear the burden of higher taxes, and impose rules on how we're allowed to act.
The reason that old people become conservative is because they see the flaws of liberalism. They recognize that change in moderation is necessary, but that drastically shifting principles and ignoring the constitution lead to chaos, order, and disruption in everyday life. The reason they recognize this is because many of them grew up aspiring to "save the world." They realized that in order to preserve the American way of life, you must preserve American ideals and principles, and you do this by obeying the constitution.
We as young conservatives listen to our elders. We recognize that they have been around longer than us, and have experienced attempts at mass change. Also, our parent's generation has witnessed "progressive" causes shift towards socialism and mass murder (see Mao's China, Various South American Movements, Bolshevik Revolution, etc.)We realize that freedom and protection of civil liberties are imperative for America to flourish in the 21st century. We are fearful of governmental intrusion into our way of life. We do not like our freedoms to be restricted.
